Former child actor Skylar Deleon was sentenced to death Friday for murdering an Arizona couple as part of a plot to steal their yacht and plunder their life savings. Deleon, 29, here in 2006, starred in commercials and appeared in the television series 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.' He was convicted in the deaths in October, along with a third, unrelated murder.

A Long Beach man was sentenced to death today for lashing Thomas and Jackie Hawks to the anchor of a yacht and throwing them overboard off the coast of Newport Beach in a plot to steal the vessel and plunder the couple’s life savings.
 

Skylar Deleon showed little reaction as Orange County Superior Court Judge Frank Fasel explained that mitigating factors — including any abuse Deleon suffered while growing up — were outweighed by the “horrors” of the 2004 murders of the Hawkses and the earlier 2003 slaying of John Peter Jarvi in a Mexican desert.

Deleon was convicted of all three murders. “The mental anguish and torment these three people must have anticipated while bound and eventually experiencing their ultimate fates warrants the death penalty instead of life without parole,” Fasel said in his packed courtroom.
 

A jury has also recommended death for John Fitzgerald Kennedy, a 43-year-old Long Beach gang member convicted of helping Deleon throw the Hawkses off their 55-foot yacht, named the “Well-Deserved.”Deleon’s ex-wife, Jennifer Deleon, was found guilty by a jury in 2006 of murder and sentenced to life in prison in connection with the yacht murders. http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/gGsC

I'v known only a few perverted wise guys. I'm so glad phil SPector got his. Luckily evil scumbags make the news. Luckily they get prosecuted. A few bad people want to make us think the whole world is evil and polluted. I still believe in angels and humanity. The angels show us good people everyday. When people say evil out weighs bad they are usually bad people or have a negative outlook. Since the beginning of time evil has never overpowered good because it can't. There is a God in heaven up above and angels here on earth to make sure wicked people are seen as the bad egg in the bunch. Since they are rare in Gods kingdom, like the rotten defective freak, they're are an outcast on the planet. They know their sickness and they can masquerade from others because God gives us a sixth sense. He also gave us a free will and we can choose. We choose good over evil

I have to admit I don't get involved in the death penalty argument. It seems the people that want to execute people the most are Bible thumpers that say it is God's decision to pick who lives or dies that want to choose who lives or dies. I ask, "Is it God's choice or yours?" I am not making a staement. I just want you to think about what you reallly believe. I am never shy about making a statement but in a case like this we all need to know what we believe and why we believe what we believe.

Laci Peterson, born Laci Denise Rocha (May 4, 1975 – c. December 2002),^[1] was the subject of a highly discussed murder case after she went missing while seven and a half months pregnant with her first child. Laci was reportedly last seen alive on December 24, 2002. Her husband, Scott Peterson, was convicted of murder in the first degree for Laci, and in the second degree for their unborn son. Scott is currently on death row at San Quentin Prison.

On April 13, 2003, a couple walking their dog discovered the decomposing but well-preserved body of a late-term male fetus on the San Francisco Bay shore in Richmond's Point Isabel Regional Shoreline park^[18], north of Berkeley. One day later, the body of a recently-pregnant woman, wearing cream-colored maternity pants and a maternity bra, washed to shore one mile away from where the baby's body was found. The woman's cause of death was impossible to discern due to decomposition; the body was decapitated, the forearms were missing, the right foot gone, and the left leg from the knee down was missing. Later reports from the medical examiner revealed that there were injuries, two cracked ribs, that happened at or about the time of death. DNA tests verified that they were the bodies of Laci Peterson and her son. Mother and fetus had not been separated by coffin birth, as had been speculated. Rather, Laci's upper torso had been emptied of internal organs and allowed for the fetus to pass through a perforation in the top of the decomposing uterus.

Scott Peterson was arrested on April 18, 2003 in La Jolla, California in the parking lot of a golf course, where he claimed to be meeting his father and brother for a game of golf. At the time of his arrest, Peterson was carrying $15,000 in cash, had four cell phones, camping equipment, a gun, a map to Frey's workplace that had been printed the day before, Viagra, and his brother's driver's license.^[19] His hair and goatee had been dyed blonde. The police took this as an indication that Peterson had planned to flee, possibly to Mexico.

In 2006, Sharon Rocha wrote For Laci : A Mother's Story of Love, Loss, and Justice a biography and memoir about the life and death of her daughter. All proceeds are used to fund the Laci and Conner Search and Rescue Fund, which Sharon Rocha had founded.

Actress Sharon Tate was also 8 months pregnant when she and her fetus was brutally murdered along with 6 other people by the Manson family in 1969 during a two day killing spree in Hollywood.

On September 20, 2006, former Congressman William E. Dannemeyer sent a letter to Attorney General Bill Lockyer pointing out that both Laci and Evelyn disappeared on satanic holy days, and that they both ended up in the San Francisco Bay with their hands, feet, and heads missing.

A brief mention of Laci appears on gospel artist Kirk Franklin's CD Hero. On the song "Why?" (collaborated by Kirk and Stevie Wonder), one of the lyrics goes "Why, oh why, did Laci have to die?"

They certainly weren’t the first.

For example:

On the 21st of May, 1924, University students Leopold and Loeb murdered 14-year-old Bobby Franks for the hell of it. They were both imprisoned for life.

On the 12th of February, 1993, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables killed toddler James Bulger. For this they were each given a ten year prison sentence.

In March of 1994, Lawrence Colwell Jr. strangled an elderly tourist in Las Vegas, Nevada and was eventually executed.

On the 27th of May, 1996, Tony Amati, Edward James and Troy Sampson murdered three people in Las Vegas.

On the 19th of April, 1997, for a thrill, 18-year-old Thomas Koskovich and 17-year-old Jayson Vreeland lured pizza delivery personnel, Jeremy Giordano and Giorgio Gallara, to a remote area to murder them.

In 1999, Alfred Brissette and Marc Girard, of Woonsocket, Rhode Island conspired to kill a 30-year-old woman to “see what it would be like.”

And, as time marches on and both Alexander James Letkemann and Jean Pierre Orlewicz fade into obscurity and become footnotes themselves, they won’t be the last murdering bastards to kill for the fun of it.

In the meantime, Jean Pierre Orlewicz and Alexander Letkemann will enjoy their day in the sun for what they did.

There might have been a few reasons for someone to kill 26-year-old Daniel Sorenson. He was a registered sex offender in both Michigan and Illinois, and he made it a habit to owe people money. Now you might say, “Hey, he was a registered sex offender! String him up!” but Sorenson really didn’t do much to get on that registry, unless you count having a 14-year-old girlfriend when you’re 17 as a major crime.

Of course, Alexander and Jean Pierre didn’t plan their killing because of Daniel Sorenson’s history. They didn’t do it because he owed Orlewicz $400. No, Alexander James Letkemann and Jean Pierre Orlewicz spread a tarp on the floor of a garage owned by Orlewicz’s grandfather and collected the tools required to brutally murder someone just for the hell of it.

With a quick call and an invitation for Daniel Sorenson to come over, their trap was set.

The plan was actually a pretty good one, really. I mean in the cold-blooded murder plan sense.

As Daniel Sorenson walked through the door to the garage, Jean Pierre Orlewicz began stabbing him in the back, over and over. As Daniel collapsed to the ground, Letkemann closed the door in order to keep the sound of a man noisily dying from alerting anyone.

As Daniel’s life bled out all over the tarp, JP Orlewicz grabbed a handy hacksaw and went to work, sawing through Daniel’s neck and removing his head. That done, the pair applied a blowtorch to Daniel’s hands and feet in an attempt to eliminate the chance police would be able to find out who the corpse was through the use of fingerprints.

Wrapping the body up in the tarp, Alexander James Letkemann and Jean Pierre Orlewicz put the grisly package into the back of a pickup truck and drove off.

Daniel Sorenson’s body was dumped on the ground and set on fire at a construction site located on a cul-de-sac.

His head was dropped into a local river.

Daniel’s torso was found by a utility crew the next day and for a little while at least, the authorities were stumped. There isn’t much evidence you can get from a soggy head.

The perfect crime, it would seem.

And if Daniel Sorenson hadn’t told friends that the pair had invited him over to see them, they might have gotten away with it too.

Too bad for them that he did, I suppose.

The trail led directly to Jean Pierre’s house, where the knife Jean Pierre used on Daniel’s back was found. Both Alexander James Letkemann and Jean Pierre Orlewicz were arrested and interrogated.

Alexander Letkemann broke first, told the authorities where Daniel’s head could be found, and it was all over.

Alexander Letkemann and Jean Pierre Orlewicz have both been charged with first-degree premeditated murder, felony murder and mutilation of a corpse. For the benefit of those of you in the stands, that’s a mandatory life sentence, a mandatory life sentence and a possible 10 years.

Jean Pierre will, in all likelihood, spend the rest of his life in prison for his role in the murder of 26-year-old Daniel Sorensen.

Alexander Letkemann took a plea deal and pled guilty on the 1st of April, 2008 to second-degree murder in exchange for his testimony against Jean Pierre. Alexander Letkemann testified that Jean Pierre Orlewicz lured Daniel Sorensen to his grandfather’s home and jumped him from behind when they walked into the garage. He said Jean Pierre Orlewicz stabbed Sorensen to death and then decapitated him with a hack saw.

According to Alexander Letkemann, the only motive for the murder was that Jean Pierre was owed money by Daniel Sorenson and that Sorenson had his gun on him. Alexander Letkemann told the jury that he helped clean up the scene to clear a $100 debt to Orlewicz.

Jean Pierre Orlewicz had a different story when he took the stand in his own defense. According to Orlewicz, he stabbed Sorenson after the 250+ pound bouncer pointed a gun at him. Jean Pierre told the courtroom that he decapitated Sorensen and burned his fingers to hide his identity because he feared Sorensen had mobster relatives who would come after him.

Alexander Letkemann faces 20 to 30 years in prison. We will all find out what Letkemann’s fate will be when he is sentenced on the 23rd of April, 2008.
